Generic Mapping Tools (GMT) V. 3.4 for OS/2
                     12 December 2001

I have ported version 3.4 of Paul Wessell and Walter Smith's
Generic Mapping Tools (GMT) to OS/2. This file explains how
to install the tools on OS/2, provides a link to the main GMT
site, and provides a disclaimer.

1. The main site for GMT is http://gmt.soest.hawaii.edu/ . This
site should be used to access most information and digital
data related to GMT. What I provide are DLLs and EXEs that
   execute under OS/2.

2. Disclaimers: At present, only minimal testing of the OS/2
version of GMT has been performed. However, the twenty
example cases that are used for testing in the GMT distri-
   bution are all properly created.

GMT 3.4 for OS/2 has been built and tested on Warp 4 Fixpak 12.
I have no way of testing the routines on other versions of OS/2.
However, as all the routines are console routines (that is,
make no use of Presentation Manager or the Workplace Shell),
they should work on all other versions of OS/2.

3. If you have a previous version of GMT installed, please note
that the DLLs from that version are incompatible with the present
version. Therefore, if you wish to retain that version, save
the executables and the DLLs (specifically, gmt.dll and psl.dll)
associated with that version. The executables from earlier versions
of GMT are also incompatible with the DLLs from the present version.

Note that the last OS/2 version was 3.3.4.

4. To install, download the zip archive that contains both the
   GMT DLLs and the EXEs:

   ftp://ees.lanl.gov/pub/EES3/pub/gmt/GMT3.4/gmt3_4.zip

   (722169 bytes)

Extract from this zip archive its main contents, namely the two
   files
            dll-files.zip
            exe-files.zip

Unzip the archive dll-files.zip to a location in your LIBPATH.
Unzip the archive exe-files.zip to a location somewhere in your
PATH. Set the appropriate environmental variables (such as
GMTHOME) as described in the main GMT documentation (refer to
the GMT web site) and you should be ready to go!

5. Please refer to the file Porting.txt, contained in the zip archive
Posting.zip, if you wish to try to build the tools yourself.
