This used to be a separate distribution, the "kana suppliment" to kdrill.
However, it is small enough that I finally decided to combine it with
kdrill.

kdrill normally uses the "kanjidic" and "edict" dictionaries. They are rather
large dictionaries of Kanji and Japanese phrases.

However, if you wish to drill yourself on the pronunciation of kana, 
(hiragana and katakana) you may instead substitute one of the dictionaries
here.
Furthermore, the "makedic" program in this directory can help you generate 
your own custom kanjidic-style dictionaries.
Or, "makeedict" can let you make edict-style dictionaries.

Provided dictionaries here:
	hira.edic	-	basic hiragana
	hiraplus.edic	-	full hiragana
	kata.edic	-	basic katakana
	kataplus.edic	-	full katakana

"hira.edic", and "kata.edic" are already provided, ready for you to use.
They have just the basic hiragana and katakana, not the full range.

To generate your own dictionary --  for example, "hira.edic", do:

   makedic hira.edic <infile.hira

You may call kdrill with one of them as a substitute edictfile dictionary,
as follows:

   %  kdrill -edictfile kana.edic -kdictfile none

You may also merge dictionaries together. For example,

   %  cat hira.edic kata.edic >kana+hira.edic

I do not guarantee the dictionaries to be %100 accurate. I'm only a
beginner myself. 

If you want to make your own libraries with kdrill (for example, using
the greek or cyrillic in the kanji24 font), you can also do that
with "makedic". Look at the "infile"'s for samples of input.

Basic structure of input
------------------------

  makeedict expects:
    one line JIS encoding of up to two characters, in hex, with spaces between
      the two, if you have two characters
    one line english translation
    [repeat until done]
  It outputs in edict format.

  makedict expects:
    one line JIS encoding of a SINGLE character, in hex, with spaces
    one line of english translation
    
  It outputs in kanjidic format.

Obviously, these are rather minimal! If you want to improve upon them,
I welcome your code contributions.
